more from John - Day 19 of 20

Read 2 John.

“Watch yourselves, so that you may not lose what we have worked for, but may win a full reward.” (2 John 8 ESV)

John urged to watch for...

“For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not confess the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh.” (2 John 7a ESV)

“Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God.” (2 John 9a ESV)

As followers of Jesus we literally follow Jesus and His teachings found in the Word, in Holy Scripture. We do not follow the latest “trends” where our culture may stray from Jesus and His Word.
Paul similarly warned and instructed...

“...be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life...” (Philippians 2:14-16a ESV)

Where are you seeing this happen? As you consider this question think also upon Jesus' words, “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many.” (Matthew 7:13 ESV)

Returning to God, walking off that destructive path, David prayed,

“Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from your presence,
and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
and uphold me with a willing spirit.
Then I will teach transgressors your ways,
and sinners will return to you.”
(Psalm 51:10-13 ESV)

How may we similarly pray so that we and those who have become misdirected off that narrow path that leads to Jesus would return to Him? (And be reminded that that “joy of your salvation” is that gift of grace freely given to you because of what Jesus did for you on the cross.)
