“Whoever keeps his commandments abides in God, and God in him. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit whom he has given us.” (1 John 3:24 ESV)
It seems easier for us to “get” how we as Jesus followers would act in accordance with God. As John wrote, we do this when we “we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another.” (1 John 3:23 ESV)
But take a moment to think on God abiding with us. God acting in accordance with us. How does that compute?
John provided the answer. God does this through His Spirit whom He has given us. So God doesn't act in accordance with us in anything that is self- or worldly-focused, but acts in accordance to that which flows from the Spirit living in us. How have you seen evidence of this in your life? What reassurement do you receive?
“By this we shall know that we are of the truth and reassure our heart before him.” (1 John 3:19 ESV)
